Every summer, Wichita State University’s College of Engineering hosts a series of summer engineering concepts camps for youth in grades 4th-12th. The purpose is intended to develop avenues to our youth to be exposed, to understand and appreciate the wonders of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and eventually develop love, passion and the desire to know more about STEM. In addition the summer camps expose our youth to problem solving, creativity and analytical thinking exercises which are CRITICAL elements that will prepare our youth to be great engineers, scientists BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY-future leaders who will impact not only their lives but the lives of others in their communities. Cost for these camps range from $200-$375. However, scholarships are available with priority given to underrepresented students (females, African American, Latino or Native American youth). If awarded, students will ONLY PAY a $10 fee for the camp of their choice. Engineering Summer Camp Applications are available at the church office or on the information table located at the entrance of the Church. Deadline dates for the engineering summer camps is APRIL 1, 2018, and can be submitted to Norman Bent. All applicants must submit a 100-200 word statement (written or typed) indicating why he/she would like to attend the chosen camp. All HIGH SCHOOL applicants must also submit a letter of recommendation from their science or math instructors in addition to the 100-200 statement.
